Layla

This is Saile’s choreography for Kurdish sad love song. It is inspired by the famous love story “Layla and Majnun” which has been called “the Romeo and Juliet of the East”.

The Layla-Majnun theme passed from Arabic to Persian, Turkish, and Indian languages, most famously through the narrative poem composed in 12th century by the Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi. It can be regarded as a symbol of unfulfilled love and longing.

Music used for the choreography is created by famous Kurdish singer and divan-player Sadollah Nasiri and performed here in live together with Dariush Rasouli – Persian Ney, Arad Emamgholi – Daf and Lilian Langsepp – Gothic harp.

Video filmed in Iran / Estonia.
