Renaissance Dance

I was told once, by a friend of mine
She had seen an olden sign
She said she was not from this time
And did I feel the same?

Renaissance with Saltatriculi

The early dance ensemble Saltatriculi was established in Tartu in 2001 and their repertoir consists of choreographies originating from the 15th – 17th centuries. The ensemble is lead by Külli Kressa and over the years Saile has participated in her classes of various early dances: medieval, renaissance and baroque. Recently she has also performed with them in different projects, mostly dances from early renaissance and late renaissance. They put great emphasis on historical details – regarding choreography as well the costumes and stage presence – and usually they also dance with live music.

“The Spanish-English Lady” by Cervantes

At April in 2024 Saltatriculi produced a full concert-performance on the material of short novel written by Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616).

The story revolves around a girl named Isabela, who is kidnapped from city Cádiz and grows up in England. She falls in love with noble son of the family who raises her and story follows their dramatic and adventurous love story. From Saltatriculi’s perspective this was a great possibility to present in one performance the dances from both English and Spanish origin. Saile had the opportunity to dance the role of Isabela in this project.
